Nothing can stop us now.

So today I was taking the East West train and guess what! The new announcement system which I heard a couple of weeks ago is back! Honestly, I thought they scrapped it due to complaints. And as a concerned citizen, here's why I think so.

The announcements now come in both English and Chinese languages, and I mean for the names of each station. I don't mind hearing a few seconds longer of announcements each train stop but what I'm concerned about is the rationale behind this change.

And sensibly, almost all Singaporeans who take the trains, if not all, understand English. Even if they don't, they've been Singaporeans long enough to understand each station's name right? Therefore, one of the reasons for this new implementation is to cater to the foreigners in Singapore, or rather, the PRCs.

I'm not saying that I'm racist or have anything against them. What I'm saying is if you even want to implement such changes to benefit a group of people, why not improve and include the needs of Bangladeshi workers in Singapore too? Surely they take trains too. And we're a multiracial country therefore we should embrace diversity and help one another right?

Or better yet, just revert back to the original English only. Foreigners should tale the initiative to understand the Singaporean culture and this is one of the few basic steps in doing so. Understanding the most common places in Singapore.

I watched The Red Dot on Channel NewsAsia two weeks ago or something and they were addressing the foreign population in Singapore and I do agree with some that they are taking our jobs away. And our university placings too. Sure we can't live without them, but that's only for menial jobs like roadsweepers and pest control which Singaporeans don't want to take up. But other than that, please, it does not help our economy and housing in the long run.

And sometimes I ask, "Is this really independence?"
